Adventure (Aquarium) is Just a Short Drive Away in South Jersey
Have you run out of activities do keep the kids occupied this summer? As back to school looms over our heads and the mercury keeps on rising, pushing us to seek relief in air conditioned homes, boredom lurks behind every corner.
What to do? If you live in Southern New Jersey, or even in Philadelphia, a day of adventure awaits you, just a short drive away. Adventure Aquarium, formerly the New Jersey State Aquarium, located on the Camden Riverfront.
Easily accessible by public transportation, the aquarium, which just recently went through a year long renovation, has something for everyone. Of course, there are fish… lots of fish, from the four corners of the earth. And turtles, and starfish – everything that you would expect from an attraction like this one, plus more. The old shark tank is now home to rays and giant tuna. The sharks have a brand new home, one that is sure to be the crown jewel of the aquarium, as the tank leads visitors to an underwater tunnel, a thick glass tube that puts people inside the tank. Sharks off all shapes and sizes swim above and around you as you explore beneath the sea.
But that’s not all. Hippos, seals, and penguins also are on display. The aquarium hosts shows daily featuring all of these water loving animals. There is also the new 4-D theater, and for an extra fee, around $115, you can take a class and actually swim with the sharks.
Outside, the Children’s Garden gives little ones a place to run, jump and climb. This Camden, NJ attraction really does have something for everyone. It is much more “mom-friendly” now that they allow strollers inside as well.
The whole package makes for an enjoyable day trip, away from the house and out of the heat. Enjoy!
The Adventure Aquarium is open daily from 9:30 am -5 pm. Visit www.adventureaquarium.com for ticket prices, directions, and activity schedule. It is also handicapped accessible and had wheelchairs for rent. Strollers are allowed.
