Vietnam has  47 towns . Remember that this contry, situed in Indochina peninsula of South East Asia is divided into three major regions:

North of Vietnam ( Tonkin or  Bắc Bộ)  is located in the north and the major cities are Hanoi and Haiphong.

In the South, Nam Bộ , the  main city is Ho Chi Minh City.

In the central of Vietnam , Trung Bo, Da Nang and Hue as major cities.

Vietnam’s largest and most important city is Ho Chi Minh City which is in the south. It is the country’s economic powerhouse and is the most populated with 9,123,340 inhabitants according to the latest statistic

The four largest cities of Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City are Hanoi, Haiphong, and Bien Hoa, Da Nang with over 500 000 inhabitants according to the latest statistic.

Medium size cities with 100 000-300 000 inhabitants are Hue, Nha Trang, Can Tho, Rach Gia, Vung Tau, Quy Nhơn, Nam Ðịnh, Phan Thiet, Long Xuyen, Buon Mê Thuột, Hồng Gay, Cam Ranh, Cẩm Pha Da Lat, Thai Nguyen, My Tho, Pleiku, Sóc Trăng, Thanh Hoa, Ca Mau, Bạc Lieu, Hoa Binh, Vinh, Vinh Long and Yen Bai.

Small Vietnam’s cities counting less than 100 000 inhabitants are: Việt Trì, Phan Rang, Chau Ðốc, Tuy Hoa, Tan An, Uông Bí, Sa Dec, Ben Tre, Tam Ky, Tra Vinh, Hai Duong, Sông Be, Bien Sơn , Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Ha  Ðông, Tay Ninh .

The most popular cities for travelers in Vietnam

Although all cities of Vietnam are fun to visit, some of them are much more popular with tourists than others. Here are some of them:

If you go down to the South, Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon is the city not to be missed.
