Before leaving for Vietnam, everyone wonders how much the cost does for the accommodation, food, travel etc. The cost of living in Vietnam is not easy to predict from abroad.  As we are living  in Hanoi Vietnam, we can give you the cost of the various budget items here. These prices are approximate and this is our personal expenses.

If the popular food is cheap ( like Pho , Bun Cha ), some specialities can be quite expensive especially imported products or rare foods..It may be cost the same price as in France or in America. Now let’s cut the chase and go ahead to the main point

Fisrtly you have to get the exchange rate 1 USD = 21 000 VND, here is the cost of living in Hanoi  Vietnam:

Salary:

The minimum salary  in Vietnam is3 000 000 VND / month (150 USD)
The salary of a skilled assistant in Saigon is around 7,000,000 VND / month (300 USD)
The salary of a middle manager is around 10 million VND / month (500 USD)
The salary of a Director for a big company  around  30 million VND / month and more(1500 USD)

Accommodation:

A lowest costs for a room in a house:  2,000,000 VND / month ( 100 USD)
A house in a popular district 15 million VND / month (750 USD / month)
An apartment of 50m square in District 1: 30 000 000 (1500 USD)
A budget hotel room in the backpacker area: 300 000 VND / night (15 USD)
A mid-range hotel room 900 000/night (45 USD)
A luxurious room: 3 000 000/nuit (150 USD)
Electricity fee around 500 000 VND / month (25 USD)
Water fee: around 300 000 VND / month (15 USD)
Internet: around 300 000 VND / month  (15 USD)
LCD TV 40 “: 10 million VND (500 USD)
Fridge: 10 million VND (500 USD)

Food:

A bread (banh mi): 3 000 VND (15 cents)
1 kg of mango: 30 000 VND ( 1,5 USD)
Coffee ice: 15 000 VND (70 cents)
Pho soup in a street in a popular district: 20 000 VND (1 USD)
A Pho soup in a medium-end restaurant: 60 0000 VND (3 USD)
A Western dish in a Western restaurant: 150 000 VND (7 USD)

Transport

City bus: 4000 VND / ticket (20 cents)
Motorcycle taxi: 30 000 VND little trip about 3 km  (1,5 EUR)
Taxis: 13 000 VND / km + 10 000 VND more
Bus: 100 KM for 8 USD
Plane: depends companies and route but overall affordable
Buy a  motobike: from15 000 000  to 60 000 000 (from700  to 3000 USD )

Others expenses

Cinema: 100 000 VND / one entry (5 USD)
Local beer in a popular bar: 150 000 VND (0, 75 USD)
Beer in an average bar: 30 000 VND (1,5 USD)
Cocktail in a support bar: 100 000 VND (5 USD)
