How we review….

Travel Reviews is a RECOMMENDATION site. We are totally non-commercial at present, meaning we receive no money for our reviews from the places we review. (Now you’re thinking, how do they make money? We sell the articles to parenting magazines and newspapers, that’s how!) This lack of financial obligation allows us to write whatever we feel about the places we visit.

We do, however, believe what our mothers told us, “If you don’t have something nice to say….” If we run into a place that we cannot recommend, then we simply do not include this information in our site. I’ve heard comments that “this isn’t fair” (my father is my greatest critic!) because we don’t share the negatives if we have them (really, we don’t have them very often at all). We feel that just because we have a negative experience doesn’t give us the right to trash the reputation of an establishment. Being a former manager, I know anyone in a position of hiring has at some time or another hired someone they wished they hadn’t. We all have bad days, and even more so, different tastes and desires.

Please understand that in the four years we’ve been doing this, we’ve only had to neglect to include one tourist attraction (although it was only $5 per head to get in, it was SUPER cheesy, about a ten minute tour, and a family of four’s $20 would be better spent elsewhere). We’ve re-reviewed one restaurant at the manager’s request, as the first time it was not up to the standards they would have liked (due to a major necessary employee turnover right after our visit) or a great experience for us. They plead their case, explained that they knew their problems and were rectifying them, and asked us to give it another shot. The improvements were obvious and we had a terrific second visit. They now appear on our site.

(And no, I’m not telling you what these two places were, what would my mother think?!?!)

So that’s how we do it. :)
